For MA250 students:
If you find yourself wishing you could create all those nifty
three-dimensional graphs that the students from MA160 can make,
I can help! Assuming you have access to the math lab (Fisher 331),
the following instructions should get you started. If (when)
these instructions don't work right, consult me or the lab
assistant in room 331 or the handouts on the table in room 331.
- Download the following file (a Mathematica notebook):
graphs_intro.nb
by holding the Shift key while you click the left mouse button
on the filename.
- After downloading the file and exiting Netscape,
type "mathematica graphs_intro.nb", followed by a return.
This should bring
up the Mathematica notebook on your screen (you can place
it by clicking the left mouse button).
- Follow the instructions written in the notebook to run
the notebook and create the graphs.
- Quit/exit Mathematica using the "File" menu in the upper
left corner of the notebook.
For MA260 students:
A Mathematica notebook ,
work9555.nb, contains
Mathematica commands which can be used to
check your answers to worksheet 9 7/8.
To download this to your account, hold the Shift key while
you click the left mouse button.
A Mathematica notebook,
parametric.ma, contains
Mathematica commands which can be used to
generate parametric plots.
To download this to your account, hold the Shift key while
you click the left mouse button.
The Mathematica notebook,
work7.nb, contains
solutions to worksheet #7.
To download this to your account, hold the Shift key while
you click the left mouse button.
A Mathematica notebook,
graphs.nb, contains
Mathematica commands which can be used to
generate 3-D graphs.
To download this to your account, hold the Shift key while
you click the left mouse button.
A Mathematica notebook,
work6.nb, contains
Mathematica commands which can be used to
generate graphs for worksheet #6 (the Play-Doh worksheet).
It also has a cute little animation that shows how to deform
a Play-Doh bowl into a graph for problem 15.
To download this to your account, hold the Shift key while
you click the left mouse button.
A Mathematica notebook,
wave.nb, contains
Mathematica commands which can be used to generate
and animate plots for problem 6 on page 50.
To download this to your account, hold the Shift key while
you click the left mouse button.
