Gilbert Lewis
Center for Applied Mathematics

The research interests of Gilbert Lewis are in the area of ordinary differential equations. Recently, he has been looking at applications in cosmology (specifically, what does the cosmological constant do?), pollutants in lake sediments, and singular perturbations. The research in cosmology may help to answer the question of why the expansion of the universe is accelerating. The lake sediment study is joint work with faculty in Civil and Environmental Engineering. They seek to be able to predict release rates from and concentration profiles in the lake sediments. The singular perturbation study is a new endeavor with Shirley Pomeranz of the University of Tulsa.
