Title:

Computational material dynamics: FXM artifacts

Date:

Tuesday, October 30, 2001

Time:

1:05 pm - 1:55 pm

Location:

325 Fisher Hall

Abstract:

FXM = Finite X Method, for X = Difference, Element, Interpolation, Volume, etc. In the process of approximating solutions to the equations of material dynamics models, FXMs produce numerical artifacts. Here we explore some attempts to avoid, suppress, and/or estimate these errors such as: discrete models based on first principles of physics; free grid methods; grid free methods.
