Distribution Courses: 15
Students must take 15 credits from the Humanities, Arts, and Social
Sciences (HASS) Distribution List with the following limitations:
• 6 credit hours must be at the 3000- or 4000-level.
• No more than 3 credits from the HASS Creative Endeavors list may be
used to satisfy the HASS Distribution List requirements.
• No more than 3 credits from the HASS Supplemental list may be used to
satisfy the HASS Distribution List requirements.
• The complete HASS Distribution List can be found at
www.mtu.edu/registrar/pdfs/HASS%20Distribution%20List%2009-10.pdf
Science/Math: Satisfied by major requirements

Co-Curricular Activities:  3 Units
Most co-curricular courses are PE classes counting one-half unit each;
therefore, the most common way to fulfill this requirement is to take
six PE activity classes.  Certain ROTC courses and FA2400 (Pep Band)
and FA2402 (Concert Band) also count for co-curricular credit.

Note that these units are required for graduation but are not included in
the calculation of the GPS or in the overall credits required for the
degree.

The complete list of co-curricular classes can be found at
www.mtu.edu/registrar/pdfs/Co-curricular%20Courses%2009-10.pdf

General Advice

• Summer Internships are available. Computational skills are important.
A list of internships can be found at
http://www.amstat.org/education/internships.cfm
This is a web page maintained by the American Statistical Association,
the flagship professional organization for statisticians.

• Statistics majors are encouraged to develop a minor or second major.
Statisticians help others do research, and it helps to be knowledgeable
in at least one area of application.  Employment  opportunities exist
in medical and pharmaceutical research, marketing research, information
technology, quality improvement, genomics, biostatistics.......anywhere
data are collected.  Government agencies such as The Bureau of Labor
Statistics, Census Bureau, and other agencies employ lots of
statisticians.

• Some job-search websites are listed below.
 - http://www.statisticsjobs.com/
You will observe at these websites that some jobs require advanced
degrees.

• Our coursework is a blend of theory, methods, and computing.  All
of these are important for applied statisticians at all levels and
types of employment.
