General Description

The comprehensive examination tests knowledge of graduate-level mathematics. Its purpose is to ensure that each student has the necessary background knowledge to conduct research in his or her area of concentration. This examination is taken after a student has completed the relevant graduate coursework, and is typically completed after two to four years in the PhD program.
