MATH ONLINE PLACEMENT TEST

GENERAL INFORMATION

** Please carefully read this entire document. It contains important information.**

  • The Online Math Diagnostic Test consists of 2 exams that test your algebra and trigonometry skills. Please answer each question to the best of your ability.

  • You will first take the algebra exam, which is 90 minutes long, and contains 47 test questions. After you finish the algebra portion, you will take the trigonometry exam, which is 30 minutes long, and contains 15 test questions. Both parts are multiple-choice exams. You cannot begin a part of the exam and then come back to it at a later time.

Please make sure that you have sufficient time available to completely finish the part of the exam that you intend to work on. It would be preferable if you take both parts at the same time.

  • The questions will appear one at a time. You can go back to questions that you have skipped, if you wish.

  • Some of the questions and/or answers may take a moment to upload. Please be patient.

  • The use of calculators is strictly prohibited on this test. Scratch paper is allowed. Please have scratch paper available before you begin the exam.

  • After you complete both parts of the placement test, you should check your course placement. To do so, go back to the home page, and click on the My Course Placement icon. You will not receive any other notification of your results.

  • Please try the sample exam first. If something does not seem to be working correctly, STOP. Do not try to take the placement exam. Contact Ann Humes at (906)487-2938 or at amhumes@mtu.edu. Please clearly explain, in detail, the problem(s) that you are experiencing. (For example, the problems are uploading too slowly, you cannot see all of the images, you cannot see all five answers, etc.)

  • Don’t wait until the last possible date to take this test. This will create difficulties if problems arise.

  • If you experience any problems during the actual exam, please contact Ann Humes.
