MACH-1 at Michigan Tech

HOUSING, RECREATION, & ORIENTATION

Housing

All single students, other than transfer students or commuting students living with their parents, are required to live on campus during their first year of attendance at the university. All MaCH-I students will stay at Wadsworth Hall during the program; resident counselors are available to help students settle in and become familiar with the school and surrounding area.

If you have questions about living arrangements for the MaCH-I Program, please contact the Residential Services Office at 906/487-2684 or visit them on the web at <http://www.aux.mtu.edu/ressvcs/>.

Recreation

A variety of activities are planned for MACH-I students.  Past activities have included weekly movie nights, picnics, bonfires, Fourth of July fireworks, informal athletic competitions, day trips of the local area, hiking, bowling, and pizza parties.

In addition to these activities, all MaCH-I students have full use of the Student Development Complex (SDC), the athletic facility that houses a full-size pool, saunas, a weight-lifting room, basketball and volleyball courts, raquetball, handball, and squash courts, a rifle range, an indoor track, and dance and gymnastic rooms. Furthermore, the surrounding area is perfect for all types of outdoor activities: hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, swimming, and mountain biking.

"You get a chance to enjoy the atmosphere up here...I spent much of the time on the shores of Lake Superior." --former MaCH-I student

Orientation

"This program allowed me to be confident on my return to Tech in the fall." --former MaCH-I student .

A special MaCH-I orientation is held on the Sunday afternoon prior to the start of the class. At this orientation, you will meet the MaCH-I instructors and staff, and learn about where to go and what to do on your first day as a college student.

By the time freshman orientation rolls around, MaCH-I students will already be feeling like sophomores. Nevertheless, students should plan to attend freshman orientation in August.  See http://www.orientation.mtu.edu for more information.
