MACH-1
  • Refresh your mathematics skills or complete prerequisite courses
  • Experience college life in a relaxed, less-pressured environment
  • Learn time management and organizational skills before you begin college
  • Understand college learning expectations
  • Develop confidence in your abilities
A good mathematics background is essential for success in a science and engineering curriculum; however, about 70% of MTU's incoming students lack the mathematical background required for a successful college career. The MaCH-I program will strengthen your existing mathematical abilities and give you the opportunity to complete prerequisite coursework in other subjects as well. Our small classes are taught by experienced teachers dedicated to helping you succeed. One-on-one tutoring by upperclass students will allow you to grasp the fundamentals of algebra, precalculus, or calculus in a more supportive atmosphere and will give you the skills to begin college with confidence.

MaCH-I students have an advantage over their peers in the fall in that they have already completed prerequisite coursework, become familiar with college life, and have developed successful study habits that will serve them throughout their entire college career.

"I would recommend the MaCH-I program to any student who plans on attending MTU. I became familiar with the campus and my peers, some of whom are now my closest friends. I liked the relaxed atmosphere and fewer students, especially being on campus for the first time; I felt like a sophomore when I came back in the fall, and MaCH-I also helped my grade point average."--former MaCH-I student
